Sleep Deprivation as a New Parent
In April 2022, something incredible happened to my partner and me. Our baby girl arrived, and let me tell you, it was a total surprise! We didn't even know her gender until she popped out, adding a new level of excitement to the whole thing.
When I first saw her, my heart just exploded with love. I mean, sorry to my amazing partner, but this little bundle of joy stole the show. Life changed completely from that moment on, and let me tell you, no amount of preparation could have prepared us for what was coming next.
Now, let's talk about one of the toughest challenges we faced as new parents—sleep deprivation. It's no joke, my friend. I haven't had a solid night's sleep since my daughter was born. I'm the one who gets up in the middle of the night to take care of her. And let me tell you, I'm tired ALL the time. I survive on a measly four hours of sleep on average, which really messes with my mental health and productivity during the day.
Not gonna lie, the lack of sleep has put some strain on my relationship with my partner too. We argue about the silliest things when we're both exhausted and there's a crying baby in the background. It's a recipe for disaster, trust me. It's been a tough year, and it definitely takes a toll on your mental well-being.
But hey, things have gotten better with time. Our daughter is almost 14 months old now, and she's starting to sleep through the night. Sometimes she even settles herself back to sleep, and I just watch her on the baby monitor from my cozy bedroom.
Having her own bedroom has been a game-changer for all of us. It's important for her development and for us to have some independence too. My mom always said we raise our kids to conquer the world, not to be dependent on us forever. And she was right. We want our little one to grow up strong and fearless.
Now, if you're wondering why my partner isn't helping with the nighttime baby duties, it's because she's pregnant with our second child! Exciting news, right? But it also means she's dealing with morning sickness and discomfort at the moment. We'll talk more about that in another post.
So yeah, parenthood is a wild ride. It's filled with sleepless nights and challenges, but also with incredible moments and love that knows no bounds. Stay tuned for more stories from this crazy journey. I can't wait to hear from you too!
